Jelly Roll Race Quilt by Susan Hyder

This quilt is one of 6 quilts that I bought from the grandson of the original owner and quilter. Her name was Mary Dunn Baxter. She was born in 1886 and died in 1968. She lived in Old Fort, Tennessee. She was married in a baptist church in Old Fort, Tennessee The grandson did not know a whole lot of her life other than he had watched her quilt some.

This quilt was made by Mary in her later years in the early 1960's. It has very nice workmanship and just needs to have backing put on or used as is. Mary finished the edge to be used as is and used it for many years.

This quilt is a diamond 2 1/2" diameter and the oblong hexagons are 3" x 9". It is finished size 92" x 112"

The patches are of assorted colors and patterns of double knit fabric.

This quilt is all hand sewn and hand bound with no back or batting in it.

There is some damage to this quilt. with two very small burn holes in it. This could be repaired with adding in four squares to replace the ones burned. This quilt is not damaged enough to warrant being used as a cutter quilt.
